Friday 06/23- Fishing reports were skates & dogfish for the most part today. A few Fluke & Kingfish have been reported along the beaches as well. Crabbing has been good for many folks trying that. More anglers are trying for sharks in the evening hoping that bite turns on soon. Have had a few reports of Sand Tiger & Brown Sharks from the bay side, but still kind of slow. - John
Thursday 06/22- Fishing reports were skates & dogfish for the most part today. Cody and his guided fishing lesson did catch some Kingfish as well as a big ray and of course skates & dogfish. Crabbing has been good for many folks trying that. More anglers are trying for sharks in the evening hoping that bite turns on soon. Have had a few reports of Sand Tiger & Brown Sharks from the bay side, but still kind of slow. - John
Wednesday 06/21- The 1st day of Summer 2017 started with very little going on along the beaches. Most are trying for Fluke with a few shorts reported here and there. Crabbing continues to be very good for those giving that a try. The Hettler brothers were in at 5:00PM for fresh bunker. They just sent me a report via text. They caught 2 "accidental" Kingfish on large hooks/bait meant for Bass/Blues. They also caught a big bluefish. They did release a ton of skates & dogfish in the process though. Still, not a bad report considering the past week or so. Thanks to the Hettler brothers for their report. I still think we have kingfish out there, just nobody really trying for them. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. - John
Tuesday 06/20- It might sound like I'm repeating myself but the report has not changed in several days. The beach fishing is still on the slow side. Fluke along the beaches seem to be your best chance at success these days, but it's hard not to throw a chunk of bunker in hopes of a big striped bass. A few Brown & Sand Tiger sharks are being reported by anglers. Crabbing has also been very good for those giving that a try. Still no more reports of Kingfish, but I'm not sure there are many trying. Really hope they make a decent showing this summer. We are out of Fresh Bunker until tomorrow (Wednesday). Was hoping for today but that is not going to happen. - sorry. No specific reports yet today. Let you know if I hear anything going on. Unfortunately we are out of live minnows - very sorry. There is a problem with our tank. Let you know when we have them back in. Our tank problem did not impact our live eels so we are still OK with those. - John
Monday 06/19- Slow fishing on the beach continues. Fluke is probably your best bet in the surf at the moment. Crabbing seems to be doing well though. Lets hope the summer fish like kingfish & cocktail blues make a showing soon. Did get the following report from Jon Mendillo: "Fished the south end this morning at low tide. Only 1 small fluke. Water really stained. Not alot of grass. Tried to throw bunker but couldn't hold bottom even with 8oz. Just wanted to give you a report since I'm always checking your website." A huge thank you to Jon for sending in his report. FYI- you can send reports via our FaceBook page or text them directly to me at (856) 834-6634. - John
Sunday 06/18- Slow fishing on the beach again today. Bob Masa did bring in a keeper fluke from the north end beach though. Boaters did OK with fluke and seabass. - John
Saturday 06/17- We did just get in a load of Fresh Bunker, but only about 100 pounds so it won't last long. Beach fishing today is once again on the slow side. We did have some Fluke come to our scale today though. Tim Rosquist stopped in with his Birthday Fluke today of 4.3 pounds, 24 inches from the back bay. Bob Masa stopped in with his 20 inch Fluke from the north end beach this morning. The largest Fluke of the day (so far) came in from Dave Peterson. Dave landed this 6 pound, 25 inch Fluke on the boat the "Dirty Martuna". The Bass & Bluefish action seems to have slowed, but the Fluke are here. Photos are on our "2017 PHOTOS" page. - John
Friday 06/16- Very little to report unfortunately. - John
Thursday 06/15- Another slow day on the beach for most anglers. We did have a bluefish & some short fluke reported, but big sandsharks/dogfish were the common theme. That's now 3 days in a row without a fish coming to our scales - Ugh!! Hope that changes soon.
Wednesday 06/14- Slow day again on the beach for most anglers. A few bluefish & fluke reported, along with some big sandsharks/dogfish. That's 2 days in a row without a fish coming to our scales. Hope that changes soon. - John
Tuesday 06/13- Slow day on the beach for most anglers. A few bluefish & fluke were reported but nothing came to our scale. Our son Cole did manage a 20 inch bluefish on his first attempt for the summer. Big sandsharks/dogfish are also being reported by most surf casters. Still no additional reports on kingfish - hope that changes soon. - John
Monday 06/12- We did have some bluefish action on the beach, but slower than recent days. Bobby was out with his buddies and limited out on Seabass. Several reports of fluke along the front beaches including a few keepers. One family that rented a 10 foot surf rod and bought a little "zebco" combo beached 2 keeper fluke on the little zebco from the beach. Waiting on some photos of that. Jeff Crabtree hit the inlet in search of fluke. he did get a nice keeper fluke but also nailed this 35.5 inch, 13.5 pound Striped Bass on white Gulp meant for fluke. - John

2:30 PM Update- Bob Massa stopped in with this nice 23 inch Fluke he caught this morning from the north-end surf. His classes are at 6:00PM on Sundays beginning the first Sunday in July and runs weekly through August. Stay tuned for more details or just stop in on Sundays this Summer at 6PM. He sent in this "selfie" of a nice 36 inch Bass. The fish seem to be here so get out there if you can. We still have fresh bunker from yesterday as well as surf clams. We are out of EELS until tomorrow. Loads of people in this morning for bait. Will let you know when more reports come in.
Saturday 06/10- Bluefish action on the beach continued, but the real story was Striped Bass. Several nice size fish were beached throughout the day. Probably the most productive day for Striped Bass this Spring so far. Updates follow in reverse chronological order. Photos are on our "2017 PHOTOS" page.

Wednesday 06/07- Bluefish dominated the few reports we received today. We received the following detailed report from Dan Morski indicating the bluefish action that is still around: "Hello John & Sue - What a bite on blues this morning at sunrise. Biggest of the big. Caught 2 lost 2. 35 to 37 inches. That 11' tsunami rod was fantastic. 30 lb. test set to maximum drag these blues pulled like freight trains. I was fishing with 10oz. of weight with a fish finder. Lots of weeds but because of the weeds I was reeling in a lot to clean up, and that is when 3 of my 4 hook ups happened. I was back in the door at 7:45, out of bait and arms were tired. Having fun! I'll get that striper yet." Thanks to Dan for the detailed report, and good luck on that Striped Bass. - John.

Bernie is visiting from Cincinnati, OH and was fishing the front beach right here in Surf City about 90 minutes ago when this Striped Bass hit. The 41.5 inch, 22.78 pound Bass hit Sand Fleas. That's right, Bernie went old school and used sand fleas that his kids dug up on the beach. Bernie left here with a nice bag of fillets for the grill. Congrats to Bernie and thanks for stopping in with your catch!!! - John

Hope this clears up at the next tide. We just weighed in a monster Striped Bass for local resident Louis Rossino. Louis was fishing from his boat out of Barnegat Light when this 50.42 pound fish hit a snag/drop bunker. The fish was 48.25 inches long and had a fat 30.25 inch girth. Wow - Nice fish Louis! While they did load up on bluefish of varying sizes, they did have a nice bass as well. Francis Hettler had this keeper bass while fishing bunker in the mid-island surf with his brother Joe. We are now fully stocked on Surf Clams. Our "bunker guy" is on his way back in now with a nice load of "freshies". It's always a guess but he should be here in a couple of hours. I will let you know as soon as it arrives. Until then I still have some bunker from Sunday in a brine if needed. - John

But about an hour ago in walked Doug from Loveladies with this Monster Striped Bass of 49 inches, 44.74 pounds. Doug was fishing the Loveladies surf using bunker when this beast hit. That's a fish of a lifetime for many anglers. Congrats to Doug and thanks so much for stopping in to weigh your fish. And for the 2nd time today all our tournament anglers can rest easy. Doug is not in any of the local tournaments. I also forgot to mention that we received a fresh load of bunker earlier today as well. - John

But it looks like the big chopper bluefish are not done yet. Also pictured are Rudy's doggies checking out the big blue before it hit the scale. Thanks to Rhett & Stan for stopping in. It was nice meeting you guys. - John

7:10 PM Update- Just had another report and a weigh-in. Francis Hettler landed his nice 9.22 pound Black Drum today using clam from the surf on the north end of LBI. He and brother Joe Hettler released "double digit" short bass today up to 27.5 inches using mostly clam. If you look at our 2016 photos you will find a picture of Francis wearing his lucky Phillies hoodie with a larger black drum around this time of year. Thanks so much to the Hettler brothers for stopping in to weigh their fish and give a report. - John
5:15 PM Update- We have a few reports but no bluefish bonanza at the inlet today so far. Dylan and Mark combined for 3 bluefish today from the north end surf on LBI using mullet. Dylan has a cast on his right wrist but still managed to land the fish. These were skinny blues, so are probably from a different body of fish that invaded over the weekend. Then I received the following report from Lance Purcell: "Hey John! Lance Purcell! Found some monster blues to 14 pounds in the bay off sod bank landed 7 of 8 in 5 hours of fishing! They loved Surf City Baits fresh bunker!!". Thanks Lance for the kind words and your report. Thanks also to Dylan & Mark for stopping in with your fish and report. Let you know if I hear anything more. - John
Monday 04/17- Where did the Bluefish go?? Several updates & photos follow in chronological order. All Photos are on our "2017 PHOTOS" page. Congrats and thanks to all for your reports and photos. - John
6:40 PM Update- Just got a report from the Inlet but it isn't a good one. Brendan Craig walked to the tip and back and saw absolutely nothing going on with the bluefish bite. If they show later tonight and I'm aware of it I will send an update. Wish I had better news.
3:50 PM Update- Unfortunately we are now completely out of clams until tomorrow (live & salted). Very sorry about that. We just got in more fresh bunker so we are set with that for a day or two. As of this moment the inlet is still quiet. Let you know if it goes off.
2:00 PM Update- The inlet has been quiet so far today. If the bluefish stick to schedule like the last 2 days the inlet should turn on around 4:00pm. Let you know if that happens. No specific reports from the beach yet today either. Our surf clam supply is very low but we have them scheduled for delivery tomorrow.
10:45 AM Update- Still no reports from anyone fishing this morning but it's still early. Hoping the outgoing tide turns them on like the last 2 days. FYI- we are running low on Surf Clams, more expected in tomorrow. Finally found a moment to get these pictures up from yesterday (4/16/17): Captain Marco with son Babe were out again on the Laura Sportfishing and found the chopper blues. Tony Lopez of the Pennsauken Fishing Club was also back for the 2nd day in a row with his 14.70 pound blue caught at the Barnegat Inlet on a plug. Scott & Pearl were also back today to get in on the hot bluefish action. They were at the beach in Surf City using bunker. Scott's blue went 8.12 pounds, while Pearl's fish was her largest ever at 32.75 inches long and 10.30 pounds. Scott & Pearl also had a few short bass up to 26 inches. Then Randy, and Steffany stopped back at the shop to share their report. Randy's fish was 15 pounds on the hand scale, while Tiffany's monster weighed in at 17 pounds!!! Randy & Tiffany are originally from Arkansas and had a blast with these New Jersey monster bluefish. My last report from yesterday came from Ryan & Brandon, from Crownsville, MD. They also had a blast at the Barnegat Inlet with the hot bluefish action. Congrats to everyone and thank you so much for sharing your reports & photos with us. - John

7:30 PM Update- The Bluefish invaded the Inlet again this afternoon around 4:00pm-4:30pm and was still going on a few minutes ago. Several big blues reported including a 17 pounder by Steffany besting her husband Randy's 15 pounder. Randy & Steffany are here from Arkansas and their timing couldn't have been better. I will post their photos and others as soon as I can, but they might not get on the website until the morning. FYI- they will probably be on Twitter & Facebook first. Also several nice keeper Blackfish/Tog were taken at the inlet today. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.
12:50 PM Update- Small Bass along the beach is the word so far today. Brendan Craig sent me a text that he couldn't spike his rod the action was constant with small bass on clam. Then Ben Pirrello had his first unassisted catch & release today on the Surf City beach. He baited, cast, landed, & released this 14 inch in Striper on clam. Congrats to Ben. He is on his way to be the fisherman his dad Steve is. Also just got word that Scott and his daughter Pearl just caught a 30 inch bluefish from the Surf City suds. I will try and get the details and a photo later. - John

8:20 PM Update- One last update for today. Still don't think I have all the photos and there are still fish & reports coming in. Marisa with one of her three 10 pound class bluefish today from the Surf City beach. They were not big enough to knock her husband James out of first place in our store contest, but they were nice fish. BTW- our store bluefish contest runs through June 30th. Then Jon was in with his load of bluefish from the surf and the inlet today. I also got a great report on the Blackfish/Tog action out on the wrecks. Captain Greg Carr of LBIcharters.com had an easy boat limit today with this ~9.5 pounder stealing the show.
5:15 PM Update- Wow!!!! What an afternoon. Roman's bluefish didn't last long in first place. Brendan brought in his 11.54 pound fish to take the lead. Brendan was in Surf City using bunker. But before Brendan & his family left, up drove James. James' fish hit the scales at 14.42 pounds to take the lead. Everyone pictured below was using fresh bunker in Surf City. James' wife Marrissa also got in on the action and landed 2 nice bluefish. I will get her photo up as soon as they send it, but they are back on the beach fishing. Then we have Trey (age 11) and brother Parker (age 7). Trey landed his 11.72 & 11.30 pound fish on bunker right up from our store in Surf City. Brothers Albert & Alex also came in with their nice bluefish. They were fishing right near Trey & Parker. Gina is all smiles with her 2 bluefish from the suds this afternoon. Then we have the entire gang of Brendan, Gina, George, & Rob with their load of nice bluefish today.
2:40 PM Update- Well exactly a year ago today the big bluefish made a showing along the LBI beaches. And it seems like it is starting again. Roman O. came in with this 10.80 pound Bluefish he caught this morning mid-island using clam. He was fishing for Bass with mono leader and had a few break-offs as well. Roman is now in the lead for our store Bluefish contest. Congrats to Roman and thanks so much for stopping in to weigh your fish. My sister sent me a text from 5th street in Surf City about an hour ago letting me know that a group of guys were also into big bluefish. Another guy just walked in with another weigh-in so it looks like it might be on.
10:40 AM Update- The Pirrello boys are hitting short bass from the Surf City suds right now using clam and small hooks. Nice job guys!!!! They have some larger baits out there looking for that "keeper" bass as well. I will try and keep yopu updated as best I can. FYI- I usually update Twitter & Facebook before the website.

I did just get the following report & photos from Tim H. showing Kyle & Zach with their first striped bass of 2017. They were fishing swim shads last night from the bay side of LBI. Nice job guys and thanks for the report & photos. Captain Mark Finelli of the "Laura Sportfishing" charter boat stopped in with a report. His party today had their limit of Blackfish in a few hours. Still no word if the Tog are at the inlet rocks yet. Also heard from a few folks fishing the beach and the word is "much slower than yesterday" regarding the small Bass that were around. Photos are on our "2017 PHOTOS" page. - John
Saturday 04/08- The front beaches of LBI were alive with small Striped Bass taking most baits thrown at them on small hooks. We had several reports of multiple fish releases all along the LBI surf. Scott & Pearl released over 2 dozen short Bass using clam baits, both fresh & salted. The Carolynn Ann did well on Blackfish/Tog with limit catches for several on board. Richie W. sent in his picture of one of his limit of Tog. I still have no specific reports on Tog action at the Barnegat Inlet jetty. Hoping that turns on soon. Congrats everyone and thanks so much for your reports and photos. Photos are on our "2017 PHOTOS" page. - John

Wednesday 04/05- We did get one report today but no photos. Francis Hettler was in earlier today and did manage 2 short bass from the beach on clam bait from the Surf City suds. The fish were only about 13 inches but at least we know they are out there. - John
Sunday 04/02- We finally had some Striped Bass reported from the front beach today. Craig Perucki released his 24 incher and 2 other short Bass from the Surf City beach using clam. He was also using bunker but the fish only hit the clam. When Craig came in to report his catch and share his photo, Rudy was in the shop with his dad. They went right up the street from our shop and have released 4 small Bass so far. They are also using clam. Congrats everyone and thanks for breaking the ice for us on the beach Bassin' scene for 2017! Photos are on our "2017 PHOTOS" page. - John

We are having our annual Spring Store Tournaments again this year. One for Striped Bass and one for Bluefish. Tournaments run through June 30th. Qualifying fish must be caught on LBI from land - no boats. Stop on in and sign up before you land a nice fish. - John

We did get a nice report and photos from Joe Stockhouse. He was fishing under the little bridge coming onto LBI on Wednesday, March 29th. He got into about 14 schoolie bass. Here is the report he sent us: "I had 14 within a 2hr spand, they where hitting everything, caught 10 or so on SP Minnows. It was a great night I'd say". A huge thank you to Joe for sending in his report and photos. Photos are on our "2017 PHOTOS" page. - John
