June 26- The last bass weighed in was from 7 year old Emmett from Pa...His 33" striper topped 11 lbs...He promises to be back for the fall tournament and
give us all a run for our money...The fluke season is well underway with a 26" flattie taken by George from Cookstown...He was fishing with Jason from Cream
Ridge when this doormat took him down...Several keepers were caught this weekend with our own Joe C. leading the pack...He caught his prior to the 8 am rush
on the beach...Remember that the beaches now require badges when the life guards are on duty...Please be aware that they check for them...Night fishing continues
to produce sharks and skates with a few small local bass thrown in...Be sure to stop by the store and ask "What's Happening"...
June 19- Let me wish all the fathers out there a "Happy Father's Day". Another sad note for members of the Barnegat Light Heavers fishing club...Gary Evans,
longtime active member passed away this week...He will be missed by all who fished with him...The weekend was kind to both the dads and non-dads...Tim S.
continued his hot hand with another 28 lb. bass...Crazy Pete fished Saturday night and landed a 25 lb bass on bunker head...Nice fish..."Moonphase" Bob
had a nice 32" bass which he enjoyed for Father's Day dinner... The fluke action is hot and heavy with several keepers in the cooler...Brendan had 2 fluke
and a 31" bass in his cooler...It was good to see Bob M. on the beach...He continues to write the online fishing reports for "...&.", Several of the regular
fluke fishermen are starting to return to the BL beaches...Jason from Cream Ridge and Wayne from Hatboro both made a good showing...Welcome back to all the summer
fishing enthusiasts...Time to close the shop...Stop by for fresh bait and fresh information...See you on the beach...
June 12- On a sad note, this week saw the passing of Mike W.'s step father...Mike was very close to him and truly misses him...Mike has been a Heaver
for numerous years and currently is the treasurer. Also of note, Jim B. had two rods and reels stolen from his cooler rack on 6/11/11 at 9th Street
in Barnegat Light. I guess we should all learn a lesson from this. On a better note, I was privileged to be the weighmaster for the third annual
fishing tounament between the local high schools. Southern Regional High School, Barnegat High School and Lacey High School fishing clubs participate in a winner
takes all surf fishing tournament. Southern Regional won the first two years but, this year it was Barnegat's turn to take home the trophy. With 228
total inches of fish, Barnegat High School won the tournament by 22 inches over Southern Regional. Jim B. of the Heavers donated a surf rod for the
largest fish which was won by Chris from SRHS. All had a great time. This week saw the beginning of fluke on the beach. Bob M. caught 5 keepers to
24" on Saturday...Several other fishermen had keeper fluke in Barnegat Light. The bass bite is still on but, it has slowed down with the bunker
moving off shore. The have also been several 12-15 lb bluefish landed in mid island. With all this action, stop by for the latest reports. We can
make any fishing trip a success.
June 5- What a week...The bar keeps getting set higher for all the tournaments on the island...! It seems like our leader board changes
with every tide. The current first place position is held by Lance P. with his 38 lb striper which was caught on 6/3 in Loveladies.
He pushed our own Joe C. off the board and dropped the 35 lb 12 oz fish caught, by Bob M., on Memorial Day to 2nd...John O' C is now
in third with a 30 lb 13 oz fish. Speaking of John, I fished hard with him on Saturday night. Unfortunately, Barnegat Light was
not kind to us. Crazy Pete also wet a line in the bowl with only bluefish to show for an evening of fishing. The first cow nose
ray of the season was hooked up on the bar using a bunker head as bait. Other weigh ins were Craig M. with a 24-4 on clam and Hippie
Bob with a 16-0 and 17-5. Nice fish. Greg L-ski reported large schools of spearing in Loveladies on Saturday night while snagging bunker.
He proceded to catch a 24" flattie in the same location on Sunday morning. LBI Fishing Club was well represented this week in Barnegat Light
with George H. and John C. putting in time on the bar. We are getting in new inventory every day so stop by and take a look. We will be
happy to spend some time with you whether you are a sharpie or a novice. We carry a full line of tackle for all conditions. When you catch
be sure to ask Joe or Bob to filet your fish. Our knives are sharp and we are experienced with all local species. See you on the beach.
