July 4- Let's raise our glass and toast our "Founding Fathers" who had the foresight and wisdom to
seek independence from British Rule...Without them this entire American Experiment in Democracy
would only be a dream...As to fishing, the usual beach jockeys were into fluke this week with Dr. Ed
and Joe T. showing the rest of us how it is done. Gulp continues to be the hot bait. Ted from BL fished
with Greg L. and showed off their catch to the sun worshippers. Small bluefish are arriving in decent numbers
with a small blitz on the 21st Street beach in Surf City. Too bad it was during the swimming hours.
Sea Robins, Kingfish and Star Gazers are all appearing in greater numbers. The crabbing is also
picking up with keepers being garnered by several of the store patrons. They have been keeping us informed.
We are stocking fresh bait for all species. Stop by and ask for the latest info from on the water. July 12th
Hasn't been alot to report until the past few days ,but thanks to David F. for catching a 40lb 3oz Striped Bass while
fishing with a fluke rig , we now have something to tell folks
besides catches of fluke ! A month ago it was Fluke being caught
by folks targeting Stripers!
Surf side is still Fluke, some really decent keepers have been reported by quite a few
of our customers ! That's casting either a bucktail or fluke rig , with either squid/spearing or minnow ,
or Gulp ( the fav here at the shop)and bringing in nice and
slow , after a bit if no fish , move down a bit and try again !
Lots of time they are right in the wash ! If you like catching
something bigger , there are Brown Sharks around wanting to
snack on the Cow Rays that are in both the bays and the surf
right now , and that would be putting on some bunker ,
cast out , loosen the drag , and relax ,though hopefully not
for a long time!Few Kingfish here and there , we do have Bloodworms , and fish bites on hand .
The bays have been producing much better ratio this year as far as keeper Fluke are concern , still plenty of throw backs
but more on the dinner table ! Baits same as for the surf . I'm
not a big fluke fan ( sorry but I just am not :) but I do love Blowfish
sence there are too few Weakfish around , and there are
Blowfish out there , if you have a boat , set up over 8 ft
deep or better hole, chum with clam chum and bait up with
clam or squid !Also crabbing is having a really good year , again if you're doing a street end , you want high tide , at low tide they head for the deeper/cooler waters . We still carry the 3 pc cut bunker just for crabbing , as well as heads and bodies !
July 14th---
Hey out there! Hope everyone enjoyed the reprieve from the humidity. It was beautiful today-refreshing, but if you were on a boat
a tad choppy and not pleasurable for those prone to getting sea sick.
Lucky for Zach Smith, he didn't get sea sick as he brought in a 4lb 8oz fluke off a friend's boat in Beach Haven today.
Got their bait here-watch for his pic on this website and our Facebook soon. Sorry, but wont be posted until tomorrow.
I'm soon out of here-going to the midnight showing of Harry Potter!!! Yes, I would even go if I wasn't taking my 13 year old daughter!
Got a report that kingfish are arriving-2 from one surf fisher on 12th street in Surf City.
Well....nice chatting, but I'm saying goodnight. This is Sue btw. Never heard from me before. It's a first, but not a last! Look for the others to join the blogging game.
Night all. Sweet dreams, sweet fishing!
July 22nd----
Hot! Hot! Hot! And I'm not talking about the fishing action. Wow. It's brutal outside.
Heat adviseries everywhere, and there was little relief ocean side today. There's also little to report
from the surf. Fluke are still hitting, but a lot of shorts. Our guys, Joe, Bruce, Bob M are out there relentlessly, but dinner is not being brought to the table.
However, if you like skate, and from what I've been told it's good eating, then you will be happy, cuz they are there for the catching. News on the bay side is much more positive.
Kiddos are happy with the snapper action, including my 11 & 12 year old sons who landed 19 snappers and some blowfish. They are back out as I type hoping to show up their older nephews & out fish them.
Spearing is what they are finding works best.
Reports keep coming in on better crabbing. We have crabbing bunker, and whatever else you might need to catch those blue claws. Remember no ladies!
For your fishing needs, we have fresh bunker, minnows, squid, green crabs, blood worms, mullet, spearing, salted clams, salted mackrel....
Come on in and see us for the latest news, the freshest bait and the friendliest service.
Before I sign off and close up for the evening, just wanted to add that we were very fortunate this past Sunday, July 17th. SCBT was where the First Annual Bob Wagner Quad Club Invite tournament members came to buy their
bait, and later weigh-in, eat some donuts, drink some ummmm coffee, yeah, coffee, and share great stories among the Pennsauken, Merchantville, Delaware Valley, and Heavers' teams. If I'm missing any, please advise, and I will make correction.
Bob Massa was all ready to write the tournament report that evening, but our website was down for a few days. He may still be writing his own report, but i did want to take the time and say Thanks to all the guys who came out. Huge congrats goes
out to Joe Kelly taking first prize. Found out his daughter is a music major at my alma mater, Susquehanna University; small world! 2nd Place goes to Ray Wittof; and third place to Charlie Payne.
Look forward to seeing you all at next years' tournament.
Stay cool, healthy and hydrated. ****Sue****
July 24nd- Back from the beach with good news. The big fluke are now in. I fished with Brendan and Ted on Sat morning and all the fish were fat and big. All of
us kept 2 and released the rest. Look for the deeper water just behind the shore break. They are there. 4" Gulp swimming mullet in pink was the hot bait. Sunday
was more of the same. Joe and Bob B. "Moonphase" both had keepers over 20" with several others close to keeper size. Several others had keepers to 20". Sea Bass
are is good numbers now with a 21" fish caught on green crab. We now carry green crabs and will be happy to show you how to use them. The tog and sheepshead fisheries
are also producing excellent catches. The kingfish are showing up on the beach with a 14.5" fish caught by Joe K. from Delaware Valley Fishing Club. Greg O'C was seen
fluking at the dike. Look close and you will see him. Our fishing classes have been fun and we welcome all novice and beginners to attend and learn the basics.
See you on the beach. Bob
July 25
Hello to all. where to start? There really isn't much to talk
about. The only good thing to write about is no FLYS. I'm sure
if you were up on the beach you know what I'm talking
about!Been hearing a few king fish have been caught, not many. mostly down south. that don't mean their here. Bob covered everything thats going on. Sothis report is done! see ya on the beach.
Joe

What to say , what to say?? I think I'd try
for tog up off the Jetty, that's the only good report I had
from John , who targets them and had 3 shorts and one keeper
on our Green Crabs
, but that was yesterday ! He did say he saw a couple of nice Fluke taken ,
not sure if they were as nice as Bob Massa's Fluke Saturday
(both were very nice catches indeed Robert!)
The kids are still having a blast catching Snapper Blues and small Blowfish still , squid or spearing , chumming with clam chum really helps the odds with the Blowfish!
Crabbing is good, best report I had was back by "the Bridge to no-where"
on the Mainland side , or Dock road in West Creek down the road from Tips Hardware is a great spot if you're tired of street ends and don't do the boat thing!
Winds went south again, cooler water if it keeps up , which could bring in some Blues off the beach
like yesterday !Stop in and say hi , we're always home ! Barbie
July 31st----
Another Sunday of fluking on the beach. Several of the regulars have been chasing the 18" limit on the beach in Barnegat Light. Notable catches were
recorded by Greg L. and Bob B. "Moon Phase". Joe C. and Joe T. both caught plenty of fish but none broke the 18" limit. High hook for the morning was
Jordan. He outfished all of us including his grandfather. The spearfishing groups are continuing to work the swim jetty and the big jetty with mixed
results. Watch for them walking off mid morning in Barnegat Light to see the variety of their catch. I also saw kingfish on the beach being taken with
blood worms. Cow nose rays are still makeing their way through the fishing grounds. I had a lone blufish this morning in the inlet. I hope this is
starting a trend. I also saw both sea bass and tog being taken on the jetty. Stop by for more info. Bob M.
