Aug. 1st
I was off yesterday but so far I had 3 good
reports , one about Kingfish caught on the Gulp Bloody worms ,
always wondered about that , I always had such luck with the
Fish-Bites in the past I never tried them ! The other 2 reports were Small Blues
off the surf , always fun when they come in numbers , but they do come and go , mostly come if there's bait in the suds! Then there
the Fluke, Rays, skates and all that good stuff ! Tim S . just stopped by to tell how when he was fishing for Fluke off the surf a huge 40 lb
( yes, the man knows what a 40lb er looks like :D)Striper just swarm by , but took off when he saw Tim !
Richard came by with a report of nice Fluke he ws catching off the BL Jetty with Snapper Blues ( caught on spearing)that he turned around and used as bait , biggest a 26incher!
Back bays are
still great for crabbing and for the snapper Blues, kids tell
me they're getting a bit bigger then last week.I'm sure Fluking
is doing fine but have yet to talk to any of my boaters so
far today!Take Care Barbie

Okay, I know I ranted and ranted and ranted this winter because of the weather, but now
I can't believe I'm saying this, but now, I wish for some of that artic tundra. The west wind has
been brutal, but I'm still getting reports from visitors saying that throwing in a line keeps them
happy. Happy & safe fisherman are the best kind! Warm water is driving some of the flukers to kingfishing. We've got blood worms,
fishbites and clams for those. Bruce, Holden & Cole are going out on near Division in a few-will let you know
once they report back. Almsot forgot---
On the 2nd my stepfather, retired Norma K-II party boat captain, Richard Kuhn and I took 6 kids
out on the Doris Mae in Barnegat Light, night blue fishing. It was to celebrate my lil' big guys 11th birthday.
First, I'd like to say, the mates/deck hands were amazing-took great care
of all of us-thanks guys! Also, the captain did his best to locate the fish for us on a night where no blues were to be found. But atlas,
he did--and we brought in six 9-12lbers. Not amazing, but kept the kids happy &
that's what it's all about. For those of you shrugging up your nose on the blue fish, I have this to say--
they fight and are fun to fish, and I found a wonderful non-traditional recipe that could very well change your mind about the
stereo-type oily blue. To get the recipe, there's a catch(pun-intended!) you've got to come into the store and ask for me (Sue)!!!
Oh, that retired captain I mentioned earlier-my step-father. Well hold onto your hats mates, he's coming aboard SCBT & will be joining our staff towards the end of
the month. Still looking for an island year round rental for him. If anyone knows of any, PLEASE let me know asap! Thank you :)
Love to see and hear from you. ~Sue~

A huge thank you to the LBI fishing club, The Borough of Harvey Cedars, LBI Municipal
Alliance, ASAC for KIDS, PBA 175, 373 and D.A.R.E. and all sponsors of the "Get Hooked on Fishing Not Drugs Kids Surf Fishing
Tournament". It was a great time for the kids and parents. It was well organized and executed. Tons of prizes for both the kids and parents.
This is an annual event, and this year had almost 200 kids participate. If you missed it this year you need to make it a priority to get there
next year and then you too will be hooked!!! The kids caught blue fish, fluke and kingfish!
HUGE CONGRATS GO OUT TO HOLDEN LEWIS, & BROTHERS DYLAN & RYAN O'CONNELL whom are worthy mentionables for taking trophies for largest fish caught in their age categories.

Aug 14- Thanks to all who attend our Sunday evening surf fishing classes. Both Joe and I look forward to teaching the basics of fishing from the surf to all who
want to learn. This weekend saw some true summer action on Saturday backed up with a summers storm on Sunday. Saturday, I got the chance to see the NJ DMV version
of inspection for my beach buggy. As a die hard fisherman on this island, I keep a truck for beach use only. I have driven less than 2500 miles since the last inspection
two years ago. Seems as though there should be an exemption for a vehicle that has tires aired down to 20 psi and never goes above 40 mph. Maybe a 1000 mile per year exclusion.
Enough with my rant about intusive government...Fishing today was trying at best. Kingfish were found along one of the finger jetties in Surf City by one of our customers. He came
in to buy a second dozen bloodworms. I fished with Joe C. in BL and we both caught short fluke. The action has slowed down and the rough surf makes it impossible to stay
on the bottom. I have been recommending enjoying some family time during the storm and fish on Monday when it passes. Expect cooler water from the SE wind and bigger fish in the
cooler water. A special thanks to our regular customer Ted for his spaghetti with clam sauce. It really hit the spot. Clammer Mike came through again. Tight lines and look for
us on the beach.
Aug 16- Just a quick note of interest...Bluefish "Breezeway" Frank became the newest member of the married class...He shared vows in Washington, NJ with Gail...I guess we won't see
him until the fall...Let's all wish him well...Bob
Aug 21- Just finished our Sunday class and we had a great turn out...Joe handled bluefish and I taught fluke...Speaking of which, Joe C. and Joe T. were spotted on the beach this morning
catching fluke using minnows and Gulp...both brought several fish but, no keepers. John P. was the kingfish man today with several nice fish to go along with his fluke catch. Nice work.
The usual group of weekend flukers were on the beach with Dr. Ed and Brendan both hooking up several nice fish. The blowfish and sea bass were stacked like cordwood along the jetty in
Barnegat Light. Too bad they were too small to keep. The fluke in the inlet were larger than on the beach and were abundant on the outgoing tide this morning. Be careful on the rocks.
Every year there are several injuries there. When you take a fluke trip on the Carolyn Anne in Barnegat Light be sure to say hi to my nephew Patrick. His first summer job has been as
a mate on the boat. He usually works both trips and is having a great time. His father "Big John" started his career as a mate on Captain Bill. Like father like son. Stop by the store
and give us your fishing report. Be sure to bring a photo so we can post it. See you on the beach...Bob
August 28th--HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOE!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok joe-no more rain dances!!!!
Just got back on the island after retreating to lambertville, nj due to the
mandatory evacuation. funny, but there was more damage there then here on the island. when i left there
was still no power, closed roads everywhere---route 29 south closed d/t part of the road being washed away. we saw a crumbled house in lambertville/new hope area, and many soon to be flooded areas.
glad to be back to a working toilet, lights, and yes internet!
also glad to be back to a safe and sound store. no water in the store, no damage, no problems!!!!
thanks to bob g, bob m and barbie for checking on things this am. also a huge thank you to bruce for helping thursday afternoon getting the store & north beach house
ready for the storm. everything, and i mean everything was brought into the store from storage...., not an easy task. couldn't have done it without you or my three kiddos. thanks maddi, holden & cole.
we left the island friday at 5am after my youngest proceeded to wake me up at 1:19 am & didn't stop trying until i surrendered to any thought of sleep by 2am. i finished packing up our living space, and taking our essentials-which by the way, kids have a different mindset as what constitutes as essential. so yes, the zebra finches made the ride to lambertville.
the store will be up & ready by tuesday. using tomorrow for getting everything back in order. thank you for your patience and support. ~Sue~
p.s. i am long overdue for a shot of goodnight irene tequila-cheers everyone, and see ya tuesday :)
Aug 31 --- Fluke fishing along along the beach front is spotty but with some keeper fish showing. King fish have been showing and will only get better as we move into Sept blood worms and fish bites being the baits of choice for them. The inlet is still producing some keeper fluke and talor size blue fish. Lots of small sea bass that are more bait stealers then anything else. The bay still full of snappers and crabing has been picking up.
